We are only about a week away from the first Gitchee Gumee Traverse! The long range forecast is calling for a crisp fall day with a high of 62 degrees, perfect for riding 50 miles across the city!
Thanks for working with us in our first year of getting this thing together. There is always snafus in a first year thing, but we think we have them already ironed out.
Our good friend Buhrito is our local on the ground, and has already put in weeks of work scouting the course, mowing the course, making sure it all flows together, and will be helping mark the course! It takes full advantage of every square inch of Piedmont, so be prepared for a very tight, technical start to this race.
Here is a link to the course. THIS IS NOT A FINAL COURSE, but intended to show you the general lay of the land. https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?usp=sharing_eid&mid=z9-oaNdn-kkk.kAkKUa6flCBk
The course will be marked with yellow tape and arrows, but is not a completely closed course. It will cross roads that are open to vehicles, and it will use a few small bits of trail that are also open to other users. Like all ACP events, you will need to ride with your head up, and be alert.
The race will start at Piedmont, but racers should go to Mont Du Lac (3125 S Mont Du Lac Rd, Superior, WI 54880) for parking and registration. From there, we will carpool or shuttle (there will be shuttle vans and trailers) to the Piedmont trailhead to start. There will be NO drop bags on course, but your car will be waiting for you at the finish.
On course, you are responsible for you. Start the event knowing that you will need everything with you to ride the 48 mile course, and that you will need to be prepared for any bonk, breakdown or crash, and have the appropriate items with you to either continue or get out safely.
To successfully run the shuttles, we will start at 7:30, and the last shuttle will run at 8:30. Registration will be from 7:00am-8:30am at Mont Du Lac. You may also carpool with a friend to the start, and park nearby. Do not park in the Piedmont trailhead parking lot. If you carpool, make sure you also leave a car from the group at Mont Du Lac, there will be no shuttles after the race.
After the event, there will be a party with food, prizes (swag from TWIN SIX) and awards at Mont Du Lac.
We want to give our thanks to TWIN SIX and the Angry Catfish for their support of this event. Their support is what allows us to put these low-impact, low-cost events on, and give as much of the proceeds as possible back to the trails.
